RENOVATION DESIGN OF THE ORANGUTAN HOUSE IN SAPPORO MARUYAMA ZOO

【日本語抄録】
1）「環境エンリッチメント」に配慮して築30年の動物舎を改修した。
2）「環境エンリッチメント」の概念を、飼育対象の動物（今回はオランウータン）だけでなく、観客にまで拡張した手法として改修デザインを実践した。
3）観察エリアの環境整備（アクリル全面窓・日射遮へい）によって、以前の施設よりも観客は生態を近距離で、長い時間観察できる。
　生態の健康性、快適性に加え、観客の観察行動にも変化が表われ、当該施設における滞在時間の延長が確認されつつある。今後は、実際に生態の生活行動や来園者の観察行動にどのような影響が現れているのか定量的な比較調査を行なう予定である。
【英文抄録】
The old-fashioned orangutan house in Sapporo Maruyama Zoo was renovated in 2007-08 with a concept of environmental enrichment.
The concept was stretched for not only the orangutan but also visitors and zookeepers as well.
In the field of orangutan, there are soils, many natural plants, and some play equipments such as ropes, beds, and ponds.
On the other hand, in the zone for visitors, they can see the movement and the condition of the orangutan at close range through the full-height glazing. Solar shading strategies as Sudare and louvers can provide the cool spot for the orangutan and the visitors.
