Announcing a Collaborative Video with the UNESCO Creative Cities Network Media Arts Cities

In early spring of 2023, the City of Sapporo launched a project in collaboration with member cities of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in the field of media arts. The name of the project is "Media Arts Cities of the Future."

In January of this year, invitations to participate in this project were sent to all of the UCCN media arts cities, and among the 22 member cities, 18 cities, including Sapporo, were able to participate.

Participating Cities:

  • Austin (Texas, USA)
  • Braga (Portugal)
  • Cali (Colombia)
  • Changsha (China)
  • Enghien-les-Bains (France)
  • Guadalajara (Mexico)
  • Gwangju (South Korea)
  • Hamar (Norway)
  • Karlsruhe (Germany)
  • Košice (Slovakia)
  • Linz (Austria)
  • Modena (Italy)
  • Namur (Belgium)
  • Sapporo (Japan)
  • Tbilisi (Georgia)
  • Toronto (Canada)
  • Viborg (Denmark)
  • York (United Kingdom)

This project was implemented to create CG visuals that represent the future’s media arts cities 100 years from now. The inspiration for launching this project came from the city of Sapporo’s efforts to nurture media arts talents through the "Creative Knock 2022" CG production workshop.

The city of Sapporo asked each participating city to provide photos representing "What you want to leave for your city 100 years from now." To showcase how each city promotes itself in Sapporo 100 years from now, these photos were incorporated into "Sapporo 2122," a short CGI film created during “Creative Knock 2022.”

For information related to the “Media Arts Cities of the Future Project,” please watch the following behind-the-scenes video.

The City of Sapporo premiered the project’s final result, the "Sapporo 2122 feat. UCCN and TAPPY" video, at this year's UCCN Media Arts Field Conference in Cali, Colombia.

The video will be on view at the Chikaho Kita 2-jo space until 11/26 (Sun.), so please see it before then.
