Update:February 2, 2023
At the Sapporo Museum Activities Center, visitors can learn about the nature of Sapporo and how it came to be. In 2021, the facility newly introduced a 3D topographic map.
A projection mapping feature entitled "Tracing the Ages of Water, Fire, Ice, and Greenery - The Land of Sapporo," which simplifies the natural history of Sapporo from 130 million years ago to the present day, is screened onto this topographic map.
Please find below the short version of the feature with English narration and subtitles.
In the exhibition room, visitors can learn about the origins of Sapporo's nature via displays and specimens etc.
There is also a reconstructed skeleton of the world's oldest large sea cow fossil - the Sapporo Sea Cow (Sirenia) at ~7 metres long, discovered in Sapporo in 2002. Additionally, the room displays replicas of whale fossils from Koganeyu (southern Sapporo) that are currently being studied and various resin-sealed insect and plant specimens.
