Food poisoning testing

The Microbiology Division conducts bacteriological and virological examinations of foods, together with various other biological and environmental samples, to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, ensure food safety, and thereby protect the public health.

 

General examination service

General examination services include bacteriological and virus testing for food poisoning, preventive testing during contagious disease outbreaks, Mycobacterium tuberculosis testing for the prevention of tuberculosis, and bacteriological testing to ensure food safety. In addition, it conducts pathogenic testing to better understand infectious disease epidemics and serological antibody testing for HIV and the hepatitis C virus.

Research and Investigation

The division's research includes efforts to better understand epidemics through tests on influenza virus strains and other viruses, all of which are conducted in concert with the Infectious Disease Surveillance Program. The division is also researching how to use genetic analysis to classify Mycobacterium tuberculosis by genotype.
